Sometimes you can get too caught up in what you are working towards. You might be overlooking other elements in your life that need attention, or you may be overtraining and not listening to your body. This could be what caused the injury in the first place. When you have something happen that is out of your control it forces you to take a step back.
2. There is more than 1 way to skin a cat
Just cause you cant do 1 particular movement, there are nearly always other things you can be doing to help you progress(obviously this depends on the extent of your injury). In my case I had hurt my back, so boxing, running, weights etc... were out. But I could still swim. So I got my ass in the pool most days and improved my swimming. Swimming is probably my most neglected for of fitness so it was good time for me to get some practice in this area and help me improve for the next triathlon.
If you are worried about piling on the pounds while injured, you can focus that extra time on nutrition. Spend some more time shopping for healthy foods, learning new recipes and cooking up delicious nutritious meals
3. Learn & Improve
Having an injury can be very frustrating. You can sit back and feel sorry for yourself and veg out in front of the TV. Or you can figure out why it happened and work on making sure it doesn't happen again. Find out what your weak areas are (we all have them), and work on improving them. They are generally the boring or really hard things that people neglect. Most people could do with some extra mobility work. If you spend a lot of time doing an endurance exercise like running, then maybe you need to spend some extra time in the gym making your self stronger and injury proof. there are always things we can all be doing to Learn & Improve.
